Ellen Daniels, CEO of the British Compressed Gases Association, has been appointed as a Board Advisory Member of West Midlands Life Sciences Week 2025.

The trade association executive joins a distinguished group of leaders from across the life sciences and associated sectors to help shape and deliver the inaugural West Midlands Life Sciences Week event, taking place from 15–19 September 2025 across the West Midlands, with the opening event in Birmingham.

Life Sciences Week will bring together pioneers in healthcare, research, technology, and industry to foster collaboration, investment, and real-world innovation.

Running from 15th to 19th September, the week-long initiative will explore latest advancements, medical breakthroughs, and innovative technologies.

Professor Paul Cadman of West Midlands Life Sciences Week, said: “Ellen brings invaluable experience to the Advisory Board, with a track record of transformative leadership, strategic communications, and impactful public policy work.

“We look forward to her contribution to the event.”

As CEO of the BCGA since 2019, Ellen has redefined the Association’s presence in the healthcare, industrial and commercial gas sectors.

Her work has included spearheading successful STEM engagement programmes and leading the BCGA Future Leaders’ initiative to give younger people in the industry a voice in the direction of the trade body.

Significantly, she also drove an award-winning public health campaign on nitrous oxide (laughing gas), which ultimately led to landmark UK legislation banning it as a Class 3 drug in all but essential uses.

Ellen said: “It’s an honour to be part of the advisory board for such a pivotal event.

“This pioneering programme offers a unique opportunity for collaboration between professionals, researchers, and businesses shaping the future of life sciences.

“Often described as the UK’s ‘invisible industry,’ compressed gases are essential to the healthcare system, research infrastructure and everyday quality of life and are a vital, but often overlooked, part of life sciences.

“From medical oxygen used in respiratory care and anaesthesia, to speciality gases used in pharmaceutical production and scientific research, they are life-saving and life-enhancing.

“Life Sciences Week presents a unique opportunity to spotlight the sector, its scientific value, and its real-world impact on patient care and innovation.

“I’m proud to represent this vital industry at West Midlands Life Sciences Week and ensure compressed gases are part of the national conversation on health and innovation.”

Running from 15 to 19 September, the inaugural WM Life Sciences Week will welcome over 2,000 attendees across more than 100 events, bringing together researchers, clinicians, innovators, investors, and industry leaders.

The programme will explore emerging health technologies, digital health, advanced manufacturing, and clinical trials in a region recognised as one of the UK’s fastest-growing life sciences ecosystems.
