Two key industry roles are set to build on the foundations of best practice at the British Compressed Gases Association (BCGA).

New Chairs have been appointed to two Technical Sub-Committees (TSC) at the Association, playing a vital role in BCGA’s commitment to ‘mission safety’ in the compressed gases industry.

‘TSC1 Cryogenics & Pressure Systems,’ which is responsible for general matters relating to the design, installation, operation, maintenance, inspection, examination and testing of pressure systems, is now Chaired by Richard Griffiths from BOC.

And Caitlin Sargeant from Hykit will Chair ‘TSC 9, Hydrogen & other gaseous fuels,’ which is responsible for all matters relating to hydrogen and other alternative gaseous fuels.

Richard Griffiths, EMEA Product Manager for Onsite Generation at BOC Ltd, said: “I am honoured to serve as Chair of ‘TSC1 – Cryogenics & Pressure Systems’ and wish to express my gratitude and pay tribute to my predecessor, Jon White, whose dedicated leadership has shaped an inclusive, engaged, and impactful committee.

“I believe our focus is to guide and empower competent persons to safely adapt and innovate within a clear, safety-focused best practice framework.

“The move to competence and principle driven documents shifts the reader away from more prescriptive language to requiring the right competencies for the work they are planning to undertake.”

Caitlin Sargeant, HyKit Systems Engineer, is also looking to increase engagement with the work of ‘TSC 9, Hydrogen & other gaseous fuels,’ and building key relationships.

Caitlin said: “I’m excited and honoured to be taking on the role of Chair ‘TSC 9, Hydrogen & other gaseous fuels,’ and look forward to further engaging with the TSC members to deliver value to BCGA members.

“As Chair, I am aiming to build on the excellent work of my predecessor, David Hurren.

“That includes further solidifying the BCGA’s standing in the technical and safety space of the hydrogen and alternative fuels industries, identifying gaps in best practice and regulation that the BCGA can contribute to, and filling and organising working groups to produce high quality documents to fill these gaps.

“I am also looking forward to working closely with the BCGA’s new Hydrogen Policy Manager, to identify other groups to coordinate with and companies to target to increase engagement with the Technical Sub-Committee.

“The BCGA is focused on driving awareness and policy that recognises hydrogen’s value, helps unlock growth and jobs and ensures the UK is on track for Net Zero.”

BCGA has nine technical subcommittees in total, comprising experts within Association membership, who volunteer their own expertise and insight to drive forward best practice.

They play a key role in developing the Association’s highly regarded library of technical documents, including Codes of Practice and Guidance Notes.

These are used as a point of reference and referred to across the industry and in related sectors, both nationally and internationally.

CEO of the BCGA, Ellen Daniels, said: “We’d like to thank former Chairs Jon White, and David Hurren for their commitment and support of BCGA.

“Technical Sub-Committees broaden the scope of BCGA’s best practice and support the technical expertise of our organisation.

“I am delighted to welcome Richard and Caitlin into these two key industry roles and look forward to seeing them build on the excellent work of their predecessors in establishing best practice and further developing safety frameworks in this dynamic and exciting industry.”
