The British Compressed Gases Association (BCGA) has elected a new national president, with strong links across Europe and the globe.

Lucía Sainz de Mier, Managing Director at Air Liquide UK, has been appointed to the leadership role under a two-year term of office.

She takes up the mantle from Tim Hulbert, Managing Director of Busch (UK). Lucía holds a MSc in Chemical Engineering from universities in Spain and Belgium. She is also an alumni of the Executive Education programmes at London Business School and CEIBS (China). Lucia started her career at L’Oréal in France.

Since joining Air Liquide in 2001, Lucia has worked in key roles in Buenos Aires, Paris and Frankfurt, before moving to Birmingham in 2018 to take up the role of Air Liquide Managing Director UK.

Ellen Daniels, BCGA Chief Executive, said: “The expertise and skills within our membership is one of our greatest strengths and Lucía has a wealth of experience to support the BCGA during her term in office.

“We are indebted to Tim for his work over the years and look forward to working with Lucia on the new challenges and opportunities ahead.”

The BCGA is the UK membership body for the compressed gases sector. Its members employ 19,000 people directly and account for an annual turnover of £2.7 billion.
