The British Compressed Gases Association (BCGA) has appointed a new leader to take the organisation forward into their next phase of growth.
Graeme Craig joins as Chief Executive Officer, leading the national trade body’s operations across the UK.
With an extensive career in membership organisations and strong technical background, Graeme joins the BCGA from the British Plastics Federation, where he served as their Senior Industrial Issues Executive for over six years.
Graeme said: “I am pleased to be appointed Chief Executive of the lead trade association for such a critical industry.
“BCGA members play a vital role in the safe production, distribution, and safe use of industrial, food and medical gases that support everyday life, and the critical services underpinning the wider UK economy.
“My focus will be on strengthening the BCGA’s role as the voice of the industry, supporting existing members, attracting new ones and building relationships with other associations and organisations.
“It is time to actively demonstrate relevance of the industry we represent with our work on safety, standards, and best practice so that we can face the challenges and realise the opportunities.
“Just as importantly, we must raise awareness of the industry’s contribution among policymakers, regulators and the wider public.
“The standards maintained by the BCGA and the industrial and medical gases sector more broadly deserve greater recognition, and decisions affecting our industry should be informed by a clear understanding of its importance.
“I look forward to working with members, government and industry partners to help make that happen.”
With nearly 25 years’ experience in trade associations and industry representation, Graeme has worked across the building services, steel and plastics sectors, helping businesses navigate regulatory change and influencing policy in both the UK and Europe.
Starting his career as a mechanical engineer in shipbuilding, he combines technical understanding with extensive experience in advocacy, member engagement and industry leadership. He is also a published author of fiction.
Matthias Kuhn, President of the BCGA, added: “Graeme’s technical approach, coupled with broad-ranging experience in trade associations, makes him the ideal candidate to lead the BCGA.
“The Board looks forward to working with him and the BCGA team to drive growth, create opportunities, and build greater recognition of the critical role of the industrial and medical gases sector in the UK.”
